Patents

Five UK patents granted to Gabor Mayer and co-inventors, assigned to Ecosync Ltd. All five patents cover different claim sets of the same core invention: an IoT-based HVAC control system for multi-occupancy buildings that uses Wi-Fi occupancy detection and occupant preference voting to regulate temperature zone by zone.

The invention

Buildings waste energy heating and cooling unoccupied spaces, and struggle to balance contradictory comfort preferences across shared zones. The system addresses both problems without requiring dedicated occupancy sensors or manual thermostat management.

Occupancy detection. Wi-Fi access points already present in a building track which mobile devices are connected in which zone. The system uses this signal as a proxy for occupancy — no additional hardware required.

Preference collection. Occupants vote for warmer or cooler via their phone, or by scanning a QR code on the wall. Preferences can also be stored per user and cast automatically when the system detects the user entering a zone.

Voting algorithm. The controller aggregates votes across all occupants in a zone, weighted by occupant count, current temperature, and stored preferences. The result sets the thermostat — balancing the room rather than defaulting to whoever last touched a dial.

Room booking integration. The system connects to room booking databases so it can anticipate scheduled occupancy, pre-heat or pre-cool spaces, and reduce waste when rooms are booked but unused.

Adaptive profiles. Machine learning updates heating and cooling profiles based on historical sensor data, improving setpoint accuracy over time without manual recalibration.
